Information on Minato City affairs, plans and special events appears in the Japanese-language newsletter Koho Minato, in the English-language newsletter Minato Monthly and on the Minato City Website.

Koho Minato

Koho Minato is available at all major Minato City facilities, main post offices, some subway stations, some JR Stations, etc. In addition, it is distributed as an insertion for subscribers of newspapers such as Asahi, Yomiuri, Mainichi, Nihon Keizai, Sankei and Tokyo. Information published in the newsletter appears on the Minato City Website as well.

Minato Monthly

Minato Monthly is available at such major Minato City facilities as the City Hall, the Regional City Offices and Daiba annex, the Minato City libraries, the Civic Center, the Sports Center and Eco-Plaza. It may be obtained at major post offices in Minato City and at some JR, subway and Yurikamome stations. In addition, it is included as an insertion for subscribers of newspapers such as The Japan Times and the Herald Tribune-Asahi. Information published in the newsletter appears on the Minato City Website as well.

FM Radio

Minato City Hall's broadcasts on radio FM (76.1 Mhz) announce Minato City government services, events, and information in English, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. In case of a disaster, they will provide multi-language emergency information, evacuation sites information, and so on.

This is a consultation program for people residing in Tokyo to provide information related to their daily life, such as immigration matters, family issues, employment problems, etc.

Legal Counseling

Lawyers provide legal consultation (in Japanese) free of charge for people residing and working in Minato City. The first 12 people to telephone between 8:30 and 10:00 a.m. receive legal consultation on the day.

■ Checklist for New Arrivals

People arriving in Minato City from other countries of administrative districts should check the following points:

  1. Foreign Resident Registration: Registration procedures must be completed within 14 days after moving in Minato City, or 90 days after entering Japan.


  2. National Health Insurance and National Pension Fund: Registration procedures must be completed within 14 days after moving into Minato City. Note that the premiums are charged from the month when residents move into Minato City.
    Even if residents register later, there are still responsible for paying the premiums form the month they moved into Minato City.


  3. Resident tax: Residents must pay their total amount of resident taxes to the city office in the city where they reside on January 1st.


  4. Familiarization with garbage and recyclable item collection regulations: The rules differ from place to place. Knowing and observing the rules for Minato City and for your neighborhood help to conserve resources and protect the environment.


  5. Request for the start of electricity and telephone services: In Minato City, you may apply for starting essential utilities such as electricity and telephones with the telephone numbers given below.
