Register for STEP 1 Japanese class for beginners

The class is for complete beginners. Won’t you come study Japanese?

Term: Saturday, September 6 to Saturday, December 13, 2008
Every Saturday from 9:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. 15 classes total
Places available: 20
*Applications accepted by phone in the order received
Eligible: Beginning students of Japanese

Transportation: Connected via Exit A9 with Mita Station of Toei Subway Mita/ Asakusa Line

Fee: 6,500 yen for M.I.A. members as of May 30 and 7,000 yen for non-members
*Cost covers tuition and textbook.

Let’s Chat in Japanese (LCJ)

LCJ is a great opportunity to try out your Japanese conversation skills and make friends while chatting about interesting topics.
The topic for June is kimono. Have you ever worn a kimono?
There are various kimono for different occasions and for different seasons.
LCJ’s volunteer staff is going to talk about kimono.
Please help enliven the event by telling us about the native dress in your country.

Let’s Rediscover Japan (LRJ)

A club for rediscovering Japan, with meetings conducted in English.
Do you have enough knowledge about Japan or your country to tell someone about it?
In June, we will welcome Ms. Itske Stern who will speak about kokeshi, Japanese dolls.
During her 12-year stay in Japan, Ms. Stern became fascinated with kokeshi and over a period of seven years she acquired a substantial collection of kokeshi, as well as other items.
Currently she has taken many of these to her home in Dallas where they decorate her house.
Ms. Stern will incorporate photographs into her talk about how kokeshi, calligraphy, obi and Japanese chests of drawers can be integrated in the decor of a western-style home.
Time for a discussion will be set aside after the talk. Please come join in. *50 participant limit
