
Minato at a Glance
This is a gakuajisai, or a type of hydrangea, blooming in Arisugawanomiya Memorial Park, 5-7-29 Minami-Azabu. The part of the flower that looks like a petal is the calyx, inside of which are extremely small flowers. Hydrangea have long been celebrated in waka, traditional Japanese poetry, and noted for their flavor in the rainy season and the color change they undergo while in bloom. The hydrangea is a beautiful and very international flower and, appropriately enough, the official flower of Minato.
