Oshogatsu, New Year’s holiday is one of the most important holidays for Japanese and children love this holiday very much. Usually families visit their grandparents’ and relatives’ house. They prepare sumptuous meals called Osechi-ryori for the guests and then children receive a New Year’s allowance called Otoshidama from grandparents or relatives. Children earn an average ¥30,000 total.
Many people go to shrines, temples, etc. to pray for this year’s good luck.
After that children used to play kite-flying, tap-rolling, Japanese badminton, and Japanese card games, etc. with their family but nowadays, there is no place to play outside so family enjoy playing TV games together.
