Purpose of Temporary Childcare service
Minato City Nursery Schools will care for the child if the primary caretaker is unable, temporarily, to care for the child during the day due to childbirth, illness, etc.


Families Eligible for Temporary Childcare service

• Minato City Resident Child
• Children from four months old to school age that are able to handle group childcare will be admitted.
• The criteria are that the primary caretaker is unable to care for the child during the day because of one of the following reasons:
  1. The primary caretaker commutes to a hospital or is hospitalized due to childbirth, illness or injury.
  2. The primary caretaker is carrying for another person with physical disabilities or has to attend ceremonial functions and is thereby unable to take care of the child during the day.

Quotas
Each Nursery School admits one child (brothers and sisters under school age are admitted together).

Temporary Childcare service Time Limits and Hours

• Childcare is limited to one month and handled on a daily basis (Sundays, holidays and year-end and new year holidays are excepted).
• Childcare service is available for the hours that care is necessary between 7:15 a.m. and 6:15 p.m.
• If extended childcare (up to 7:15 p.m.) is necessary, it needs to be separately determined.

Fees and Payment

• The regular childcare fee is 3,000 yen per day per child (lunch and snack included). If the household is the recipient of public assistance the childcare fee is exempted.
• The Extended Childcare service fee is 400 yen per hour.
• The childcare fee may be paid upon application or when the child is taken to the school.

Application
Phone the Minato City Office Nursery Section (Nursery Entrance Counseling Subsection) and apply by 5:15 p.m. anytime from a week before to the day preceding the start of childcare, or apply at any public Nursery School. In case of emergency, consult with the person in charge (Services not available on Saturdays).

In support of child-rearing at homes, Temporary Childcare services are provided to mothers dedicated to housekeeping, to help them recover from the exhaustion of child-rearing, as well as to childcare takers unable to care their children temporarily due to illness, or short term/intermittent work schedules.

• Families Eligible for Temporary Childcare service: Children from four months old to school age that are able to handle group childcare will be admitted.

As a rule this is limited to one month.

Childcare Hours
Limited to eight hours between 7:00 a.m. and 8:15 p.m. If there is an emergency, childcare hours may be extended within the school's hours.

Childcare Fees

	(3) The caretaker needs childcare services temporarily for personal reasons such as to be relieved of the mental and physical burden that comes with child-rearing.	Fee: 3,000 yen per time
	(4) A disabled child or a child in an area where the child population is low is admitted for the purpose of experiencing group childcare.	Fee: 2,600 yen per time
	(5) Childcare service for short hours for the above reasons	Fee: 500 yen per hour

Childcare Fees Subsidies
Minato City provides subsidies to households receiving public assistance and households exempted from resident taxes. The City also provides subsidies for half of the childcare fee and Extended Childcare service fee to households that did not have income tax liability for the past year.

Documents necessary for application
Bring documents that prove the stated circumstances (medical certificates, maternity passbook, employment certificate, student registration certificate). The applicant will undergo an interview.

For infants and small children in need of care while recovering from illness, we offer a temporary nursery school program in a facility with medical equipment.

Eligible Candidates
Children six months to pre-elementary school age who are recovering from an illness or undergoing treatment and enrolled in a Minato City Nursery School facility, a private nursery facility certified by Tokyo (Ninsho Facility) or a corporate day care facility in Minato City are eligible. Note, pre-registration is required.
