 1.Free Interpretation Service on Tablet Devices Starts at Administrative Agencies

 

Minato City has been providing free interpretation service on tablet devices at administrative agencies in the city for foreign residents who experience a language barrier.

[About the service] Foreign residents can speak with administrative officers with an interpreter displayed on a tablet device at agencies.

Using a camera function of tablet device, the interpreter can also interpret letters and documents real-time.

[Languages] English, Korean, Chinese, Thai, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese

[Service hour] 8:30am to 5:15pm

 (9:00am to 5:15pm for Thai, Russian, Spanish, and Portuguese)

 2.26th Annual Kishiko International Concert

We will hold a music competition of piano, singing, and traditional instrument performances from China, Japan, Korea, and Thailand. We hope you will enjoy this unusual opportunity to watch a music competition.

 3.Hungarian Embassy Event “Hungary, the Land of Hot Springs -Hot Spring Map and Trivia-”

 4.THEATER COMMONS TOKYO' 18

Theater Commons Tokyo aims to use acting in daily life and municipal spaces—that is to say it aims to create a new model for theater by using acting concepts.

There will be theater performances, workshops, lecture performances, symposiums, and more held at THEATER COMMONS TOKYO’ 18.

Venue: Tokyo German Culture Center, Taiwan Culture Center, and other buildings in Minato City

There will also be a workshop by the Dutch Theater Artemis held on Saturday, March 10 and Sunday, March 11.

It will expand children’s ability to think freely through the process of creating music.

 5.Using the Minato City Sports Center—Enjoy Sports in Minato City

Have you ever seen the large building at the East Exit of Tamachi Station?

This building is called, “Minato Park Shibaura.” It is the largest multi-purpose facility in Minato City and houses a combination of facilities to support the daily lives of Minato City residents. On the third through eighth floors is the Minato City Sports Center, where you can enjoy a variety of sports. General visitors who do not live or work in Minato can also use these facilities. It is open between 8時30分 am and 10時30分 pm, so you can even try getting some exercise after work.

 

On the 3rd floor, where the entrance is located, there are two pools, a large 25-meter pool and a small 13-meter pool.

There is also a Jacuzzi to soothe your aching muscles after swimming to refresh both your body and spirit.

Also on the 3rd floor is the Training Park, which has a gym area and studio area. The gym area is lined with training machines, and the studio area offers a variety of programs, focusing on aerobics. There is always an on-duty instructor in the gym, so first-time visitors can train in the gym with peace of mind. With 86 training machines and over 70 training programs per week, you are sure to be able to find something you want to do.

In addition, on both the 6th and 7th floors, there are 200-meter running courses. The 7th floor course is outdoors, so you can enjoy looking at the surrounding scenery as you run.

If you want to learn kanji or brush up on your Japanese, why not learn Japanese with new friends?

[Eligibility] Open to: 1. Foreign residents 16 and older who 2. have studied Japanese for between 36 and 80 hours, or who can read hiragana and katakana.

[Fee] 6,000 JPY (For eight lessons. Includes the cost of texts.)

 10.English publicity paper "MINATO MONTHLY"

The January issue of English publicity paper “MINATO MONTHLY” has been published.

You can recognize this month’s edition by its picture of the people in Minato Work Acti.

The issue introduces people actively working in the city. The paper offers you useful information relating to the public administration and community events.

If you subscribe to The Japan Times/International New York Times at your home, the paper is inserted.
