 1.Free Interpretation Service on Tablet Devices Starts at Administrative Agencies

Minato City has been providing free interpretation service on tablet devices at administrative agencies in the city for foreign residents who experience a language barrier.

[About the service] Foreign residents can speak with administrative officers with an interpreter displayed on a tablet device at agencies. Using a camera function of tablet device, the interpreter can also interpret letters and documents real-time.

[Languages] English, Korean, Chinese, Thai, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese

[Service hour] 8:30am to 5:15pm

 (9:00am to 5:15pm for Thai, Russian, Spanish, and Portuguese)

 2.Seeking Students for the Minato International Association Japanese Course

The Minato International Association Japanese Course begins in April.

Minato International Association offers beginner Japanese courses to foreigners who live in Minato City and the surrounding area. Students learn the basics of Japanese and the expressions they need to live their daily lives.

The course is divided into three levels.

We hope you will join us.

Step 1: Students who are complete beginners to Japanese study.

Step 2: Students who have taken step 1 or who can read hiragana.

Step 3: Students who have taken step 2 or who can read hiragana and katakana.

[Fee]

Step 1 –

MIA members: 9,000 JPY, non-members: 10,000 JPY

Step 2 –

MIA members: 9,500 JPY, non-members: 12,000 JPY

Step 3 –

MIA members: 9,500 JPY, non-members: 12,000 JPY

 5.Assembly Hall Concert to be Held

We will hold a free concert at the Minato City Assembly’s Assembly Hall.

Minato City is bringing you a collaboration between a concert by the Minato City Music Federation Saintpaulias Women’s Chorus and an ikebana (flower arrangement) exhibition by the Minato City Flower Arrangement and Tea Ceremony Federation.

Please come enjoy the harmony between beautiful flowers and choral singing during your lunch hour.

 6.Meeting Rooms Available at International Communication Space!

You can rent meeting rooms of International Communication Space

Please use the rooms for international communication and other various purposes.

(5-minute walk from A0 Exit, Aoyama 1-chome Station, Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, Hanzomon Line, or Toei Oedo Line)

Meeting rooms: Room 1 & 2 (*Please ask about the capacity, fixtures, and rental equipment.)

Group usage: Groups who want to rent the rooms have to register in advance. Bring your registration form and identification of the group representative to the Minato International Association or Global Community Planning Subsection, Minato City Hall, and the registration card will be issued. Registration form and identification cannot be sent by mail.

Group registration is required to meet the following two criteria:

(1) A group with more than five members.

(2) Members who live, work, or go to school in Minato City constitute more than half of the total number of all members.

Group registrations available from the Minato International Association and Minato City Global Community Planning Subsection. After registration, you will be issued a group registration certificate.

Harenohi is published every season, four times a year, and it introduces attractive sightseeing spots and shops in shopping districts in Minato City.

It is distributed at stations and hotels in Minato City. In addition, you can read it electronically on Minato City’s homepage.

 8.Provision of Public LAN (Wi-Fi) Service

Minato City offers free public wireless LAN service to residents and visitors, in order to improve municipal services and enhance disaster prevention efforts.

[First-time registration and service overview]

Anyone can use the service for free by registering with an email address or social media account when they start using it.

When you sign up, you must register with an email address and agree to the terms of use.

The information you register will be saved for 365 days.

The portal site and authentication screen are available in Japanese, English, Chinese (traditional and simplified) and Korean.

Each connection lasts for 60 minutes and there is no limit to the number of connections in a day.

 9.Disaster Prevention Teaching Video (Made by Tokyo International Communication Committee)

In preparation for large-scale disasters in Tokyo, the Tokyo International Communication Committee created the Disaster Prevention Teaching Video using memorable, visually appealing anime to spread knowledge about disaster prevention in a way that is easily understood by foreign residents.

Available in four languages (Japanese, English, Chinese, and Korean), the video teaches what to watch out for in the event of an earthquake, what to prepare before an earthquake strikes, and what to do if an earthquake occurs while you are at work or on an outing.

We hope you will use this to improve your awareness of disaster prevention and prepare for disasters.

 10.Hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Ecuador “Fantastical Ecuador” — An Exhibition of Works by Miguel Betancourt Commemorating 100 Years of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Ecuador
