Tales of Times Now Past by Photos

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge started construction in 1987 and was completed in 1993. It is a 798-meter suspension bridge and the 13th longest bridge in Japan. The bridge crosses between Shibaura pier and Odaiba.
In the 1970's, environmental pollution issues occurred and it was hard to catch fish and seaweed at the Tokyo Bay. At that time, there was no light around the Tokyo Bay area but after the pollution issues were solved, many anglers came back to this area and a number of fishing boats and house boats called yakata-bune increased. In the mid-1980's, the night view around the Rainbow Bridge was more attractive with buildings and boats.
Occasionally we can see the beautiful bridge decorated with colorful lights. In 2020, the Olympics and Paralympics will be held in Tokyo, visitors and tourists from home and abroad will enjoy the night view.
