Registration and Rabies Vaccinations for Dogs

Rabies is a horrible infectious disease that causes more than 50,000 deaths every year. In 2013, a rabid ferret badger was found in Taiwan for the first time in 52 years.
There is a possibility to suffer from this disease because international exchange is increasing nowadays. Under the Rabies Prevention Act, imported animals must be quarantined and all dog owners are required to have their dogs vaccinated against rabies annually.
To prevent a rabies outbreak and protect the health of humans and animals, notify the city when you have started keeping a dog, get a dog license and keep the certificate after the dog's rabies vaccination. Put the license and vaccination tags on your dog's collar.

License fee

¥3,000, vaccination tag fee: ¥550
Minato City provides the 2016 rabies vaccinations. Please visit the vaccination site nearest you, and have your dog receive the inoculation. A notification has been sent to owners of registered dogs by mail.

Fees

The fee for rabies shots is ¥3,100. Please pay ¥3,650, including ¥550 for the vaccination tag.

Note

  • Fill out the notification that has been sent and bring it to the vaccination site.
  • Please bring exact change. ¥3,100 for the rabies shot and ¥550 for the vaccination tag
  • If your dog received the combined vaccine within one month, it cannot be vaccinated against rabies.
  • If you have concerns about your dog's health condition, consult your veterinarian before receiving the vaccination.
  • Dogs must be accompanied by someone who can control them.
  • Bring necessary items to clean up after your dog.
  • No parking is available.

If unable to attend

Your dog needs to be vaccinated at an animal clinic and present a vaccination certificate issued by the veterinarian at the Health and Welfare Section of any Regional City Office.

To dog owners

The city receives many comments about the dog owners' manner. Please observe proper manners so that everyone can enjoy their community.
On your walks, bring an absorbent pad for pets, water and plastic bag to hold your dog's droppings. Use the pad to absorb anything wet, then rinse the spot with water. Take your dog's droppings home and flush it down the toilet after removing any stones and leaves. Even better, finish toileting your dog before you leave home.
Keep your dog's lead short during its walk. For extendable leads, keep the lead locked and short.
