Spring National Traffic Safety Campaign

April 6 to 15 is the “Spring National Traffic Safety Campaign.”

The slogan is “Drive with care in the city and on the road.”
The principle is of campaign: To avoid traffic accidents involving children and senior citizens

  • Drivers should pay careful attention to pedestrians and bike-riders.
  • Pedestrians should always check left and right before crossing, even when the light is green. When a walk sign is flashing, wait for the next green light.
  • Always use a crosswalk, even when you have to go out of your way.
  • Never jaywalk anytime.

Promoting the five rules of riding bikes

The campaign focuses on the following objectives

The five safety rules of bike riding

1) Pedal along the road, pedal on the sidewalk only when;

  • A traffic sign to show bikes can be pedaled is placed.
  • Bike rides, those who are under 13-year-old, 70-year-old or over, or disabled
  • Riders cannot keep the roads safe for themselves because of road construction, many cars parked in the streets, etc.

2) Ride on the left side of the road.

3) On the sidewalk, pedestrians, have priority. Bike riders must go at a slow speed and take the carriageway side.

4) Obey the traffic rule

  • The following acts are prohibited; Riding while drinking alcohol, while carrying a passenger except a child in a child-seat, in parallel, and without lights during nighttime
  • Follow traffic lights and traffic signs and confirm the traffic conditions.

5) Children must wear safety helmets.

Fasten all seat belts and put on secure child restraints

  • Passengers in the back seat need to fasten their seatbelts.
  • It is important to use properly sized child restraints.

Eliminating drunk driving

Drunk driving is a crime—not only drunk drivers, but for any person who serves alcohol or lends a vehicle, and for any passengers may be punished. A drunk driver may lose his/her own and family's life.

Preventing two-wheeled vehicle accidents

  • Slow down before curves or blind corners. Drive at a slow speed around intersections until confirming the safety of blind spots.
