Minato City Designated Cultural Assets 2017

Tangible cultural asset: Structure

Daimon, 2-3 Shibakoen

Zojo-ji temple

Located in front of Zojo-ji temple. It was reconstructed in 1937 according to blueprints at the Construction Section, Bureau of Public Works, Tokyo City. The gate was built with steel-reinforced concrete but efforts were made to follow its traditional wooden design. The gate was spared destruction during World War II and has stood for 80 years, thus becoming a symbol of this district. Daimon is a historical significance and valuable building constructure.

Tangible cultural asset: Historical materials

Kuramatsuya Kahei Town Housing drawing

Kuramatsuya Kahei Town Housing drawing

Collection of Minato City Local History Museum, 5-28-4 Shiba
This drawing was produced in 1829, by master carpenter Kisaburo Tsunemasa at the request of Kuramatsuya Kahei, a lumber merchant. As far as we can currently determine, no other known drawings have such detailed drawings of the townhouses in Minato City. Furthermore, we know of no other drawings that portray lumber merchants’ houses in the city of Edo. This drawing is valuable because it shows us what townhouses and lumber merchant stores from that time looked like.
