1.A national census will be conducted across the country

The national census, conducted once every five years, will be conducted in 2020. It will be applicable to all people living in Japan as of October 1.

This is an important survey that reveals the actual state of the current population and its households, providing information that will be incorporated into administrative materials that will influence future social welfare and employment policies, as well as environment improvement and disaster prevention plans at the national, prefectural, and local levels.

◇ Submitting responses over the Internet
As a measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the government recommends submitting responses using the internet. You can submit responses from September 14th (Mon) to October 20th (Tue) using your computer or smartphone. For details, please consult the reference materials distributed with the survey form.

◇ Submitting responses by mail
You can submit responses from October 1st (Thu) to October 20th (Tue).

2.Increasing your healthy life expectancy

With the aging of the population and changes in the social environment, the increase in lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease, and stroke has become a major problem. Extending "healthy life expectancy", which represents the period during which you can live without the need for long-term care, is important for living a healthy and independent life.

◇ Adding 10 minutes of exercise to your daily routine
When exercising, be careful to take measures to prevent heat stroke, such as hydrating frequently and removing your mask if you are at a sufficient distance (more than 2 meters) from other people outdoors.
We are creating a "healthy walking map" with which you can walk while enjoying the sights in the city. https://www.city.minato.tokyo.jp/kenkouzukuri/sukoyakamapwalking.html (Japanese, English)

◇ One more serving of vegetables per day!

◇ No smoking!

◇ Make sure to get regular health checkups and examinations!

3.Disaster Preparedness

Have you stockpiled 7 days’ worth of food, water, and daily necessities?

In recent years, in the Tokyo metropolitan area, sheltering at home is recommended if you can continue to do so. An evacuation shelter is a place which can temporarily accept disaster victims who are no longer able to reside in their homes.

In the event of a disaster, relief supplies may not always arrive immediately, and there is the possibility that stores such as convenience stores will run out of goods after becoming flooded with customers.
It also takes time to restore essential infrastructure such as electricity, water, and gas.

Please be sure to check your stockpiled goods one more time.
