What is the Tokyo 2020 Nationwide Participation Program?

This participation program is to boost the Tokyo 2020 Games and to create the legacy after the Games organized by the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games involving everyone in Japan. Why don’t you take part in the Tokyo 2020 Nationwide Participation Program?
* After July 2017, the scope of organizations eligible to participate in the Tokyo 2020 Support Program is expected to be expanded to include neighborhood associations, shopping streets, and other organizations.

Advantage of participating in this program

Accredited activities and projects

They may use the logo of the Tokyo 2020 Support Program.

Words such as "Olympic" or "Paralympic"

They may be used in the explanatory text and other descriptions of the project. However, they may not be used in titles.
The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games is expected to announce the application method by July 2017.

Organization registration

First, the applying organization must register with the Organising Committee. Minato City will apply to the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee for registration on behalf of neighborhood associations and shopping streets. Other organizations should apply directly themselves.

Action applications

Please prepare and submit all necessary documents, such as activity plans and income and expenditure plans, directly to the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee.

City support measures

In order to further promote the building of momentum and the creation of a legacy for the Tokyo 2020 Games, the City will provide funding for programs to support the Tokyo 2020 Support Program planned and operated by residents of the city.

Tokyo 2020 Nationwide Participation Program

Eligible organizations

Neighborhood associations, shopping streets, incorporated NPOs that have an office or base for activities in Minato City, organizing committees that seek to engage in non-profit activities, and non-profit organizations or groups that will contribute to raising momentum for the Tokyo 2020 Games. The above organizations should also fulfill the following conditions.

  1. Organizations recognized as appropriate by the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee.
  2. Organizations that have articles of incorporation, engage in acts of donation, and maintain rules and regulations or have similar provisions in place, and also have executive and accounting structures in place and are capable of executing projects.
  3. Organizations that have no relationship with anti-social forces.
  4. Organizations that are not engaged in political activities.

Projects eligible for funding Projects in the relevant communities geared towards building momentum for the Tokyo 2020 Games in cooperation with residents. Projects covering the entire city geared towards building momentum for the Tokyo 2020 Games that widely call on and accept participation from among City residents. Projects geared towards generating legacy for the Tokyo 2020 Games.
* Projects with desired funding within ¥700,000 are category C, while other projects are category D.

Selection method Chosen by public lottery after screening for eligibility versus the criteria. Chosen by a selection committee.
Applications collected at the end of each month and selected either by public lottery or selection committee of the 7th of the following month.
The acceptance of applications will end once the total amount of funding provided reaches the total amount allocated.

Please inquire separately if it would be difficult to submit your application during the above hours.

*Projects eligible for funding must come under one or more of the categories shown in the table below.

Categories for projects eligible for funding and specific examples

Sports and health Sporting meet, exchange program based around sports
Community development Barrier free facility installation, promotion of energy management, disaster prevention drills and training
Sustainability Trash separation, beautification of public spaces, promotion of greenery including flowers and plants
Cultural Olympiad Performances, exhibits, art projects, international arts exchange
Education Community cleanup with children/students, local events/sporting events, community disaster prevention, volunteerism
Economy and technology Promotion of multilingual communications, promotion of community business
Recovery Sporting events and athlete exchange programs in disaster affected areas
Communicating to all of Japan/the world International exchange, improving the environment for serving tourists from overseas

Note

Please note that when a project seeking funding is recognized to fall under any of the following descriptions, it will not be eligible for funding.

  1. Projects contrary to laws, public order and morality, or likely to be subject to social condemnation.
  2. Projects aimed at spreading or proselytizing for specific ideologies or beliefs, and political activities.
  3. Projects in which the provision of funds will result in the promotion of organized crime organizations or projects related to the operation of organized crime organizations according to the Minato City Ordinance for Eliminating Organized Crime Groups, Article 12 Paragraph 2.
  4. Projects which will damage the honor or trust of the City or which have the potential to do so.
  5. Projects already receiving funding or subsidies under other programs by the national government, Tokyo government, or Minato City government.
