Minato Science Museum

Minato Science Museum

The Minato Science Museum is a facility where everyone from children to adults can enjoy learning about science. In the facility, there is an exhibition with a large-scale screening, laboratories, and craft workshops. On the second floor, there is a planetarium hall which has an optical 4K digital projector. The beautiful starry sky and realistic audiovisual experience stimulate interest for space development and astronomy. Also, multilingual services are available by offering English explanations in the planetarium hall and laboratory room. At the adjoining Meteorological Museum of the Japan Meteorological Agency, visitors can also learn about disaster prevention through nature and weather phenomenon.

With the four themes of nature, sea, town, and myself, the large-scale screening stimulates interest over science through enjoyable experience.

Minato City Center for Traditional Culture

Minato City Center for Traditional Culture

The Minato City Center for Traditional Culture is a facility to pass down traditional culture to the next generation by preserving and exhibiting Minato City Designated Cultural Assets. This building was originally built in 1936 as an office for the assignment of geisha of the Shibaura Karyukai.*1 Although it was closed in 2000, the construction for reopening was conducted by Minato City, due to residents’ requests to preserve and utilize the building. The construction works were completed in December 2019, and the building will reopen as the Minato City Center for Traditional Culture.

*1 A facility responsible for the assignment and entertainment expenses of geisha, including okiya and machiai geisha house, and ryotei restaurant.

Exchange Room

Known as the Hyakujojiki hundred tatami mat room, this place symbolizes the historic value of the former Kyodo-kaikan. Conducting lectures and rakugo storytelling. It can be also used as a rental room.*2 Also, providingspace where visitors can come and see.*3

Exhibition Room / Information Corner

Introducing the building and its surroundings through photos and videos. There are also exhibits that visitors can touch.

Tea Room

Providing drinks, sweets, etc. Visitors can eat and drink in the Tea Room or take meals in the Exchange Room from noon to 2 p.m.*3

*3 Due to events, there are times that are unavailable to use/visit.
