Kanazawa Gold Leaf
Kanazawa Haku is the gold leaf produced in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. This lustrous gold leaf is used in famous Japanese temples such as Kinkaku-ji, lacquerware, modern crafts, clothes, cosmetics, food, and other numerous products.
In its long history, for some periods, gold leaf production was prohibited by the Japanese government. To overcome this hardship, gold leaf manufacturing was conducted secretly by saying it is to manufacture copper or brass foil.
This history shows the passion of the craftsmen in passing down the art of gold leaf to the future generations. When you encounter hardships, you may be encouraged by craftsmen’s strong will to maintain and pass down traditional art. Because the art of gold leaf crafting has been continued until today by overcoming many difficult times.
