You are free to read any books and check out any library material using your library card. Those who live, work or study in Tokyo’s 23 cities are eligible to check out materials from municipal libraries. When applying for a library card, please provide an ID that shows your address, company or school address.
Ten books/magazines, three CDs, two DVDs, three videotapes
Please use the automated lending machine at each library.
All materials borrowed can be returned to any libraries and cooperating facilities in the city. During closing hours, return them to the book return box. A book return box is located at all libraries, except for the Takanawa Library Annex. Also, there are book return boxes in the Minato City Local History Museum, Lifelong Learning Center, Minato Park Shibaura, and Shibaura-konan Civic center.
CDs, videos, DVD, and materials from Tokyo Metropolitan Library and libraries in other cities cannot be returned in the box. Please return them to the appropriate library counter directly.
Items from Minato City libraries can be borrowed and returned to the library at the Minato City Local History Museum, Daiba Civic Center, Gender Equality Center “Libra,” and Aoyama Lifelong Learning Center. Please note that the operating hours of each facility will differ from the Minato City libraries.
Materials from Temple University Japan Campus library and Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology library can be borrowed via any Minato City library.
Minato City residents aged 18 and over who have library cards can browse materials in the Shibaura Institute of Technology Library.
You can search or reserve library materials, cancel reservations, and extend the borrowing period via Minato City library website. To use the Internet service, a password is required. Please register from the Minato City library website before you use the Internet service.

Open to guardians of babies up to 12 months old. The city library will provide a picture book to them.
Libraries hold monthly movie events. Minato City libraries will invite film critics and directors every month. The guests will explain about the movies.

Monday to Saturday: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Sunday, holidays, and December 28: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Takanawa Library Annex: 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Closed: 3rd Thursday, inventory check days and December 29 to January 3.
The Takanawa Library Annex is closed on the days above and also holidays.
The above schedule may change. Please confirm the library website or call the library before you visit.
If library materials have been lost or damaged by writing in or getting wet, you may be asked for financial reparation. Please handle them with care.
The museum opened in November 2018, as a place to learn nature, history, culture in Minato City and to nurture exchange. It conducts exhibitions, events, and operates a café and museum shop.
