Introducing Traditional Arts and Crafts

Shippo Yaki
Shippo Yaki or cloisonne enamelware is a craftwork made by placing glassy glaze on a metal. In Japanese, Shippo means seven treasures and it is derived from the Buddhist sutra, expressing the beauty of seven treasures being spread out.
With its radiant colors depicting Japanese nature and scenery, it is highly acclaimed both in Japan and abroad. It has been designated as traditional craft representing Japan by the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry. Abroad, it was introduced at the Paris International Exposition in 1867.
