What is My Number Card?

Individual Number Card or My Number Card is a card containing an IC chip, your name, address, date of birth, gender, Individual Number and a photograph. This card can be used for ID, as well as for electronic applications, such as e-Tax, and for obtaining certificates, such as the residence certificate at convenience stores, making administralive procedures easier.
The IC chip on the back contains an electronic certificate that can be used to verify your identity online. By using this electronic certificate, you can obtain various certificates at convenience stores, or file tax returns online.
The IC chip contains your name, address, date of birth, photograph, Individual Number, and the electronic certificate. It does not include information such as your tax or pension information. Also, information is kept safe from unjust reading of the IC chip’s information.
Recently, it has become possible to read the electronic certificate in My Number Cards with some smartphones and PCs, allowing you to use online services.
Services that use these electronic certificates are expected to increase in the future.
