New Year’s Greetings from the Mayor

Masaaki Takei

As the Mayor of Minato City, I would like to wish everyone a happy and prosperous New Year.
Last year, the spread of the novel coronavirus severely affected the lives of Minato City residents and the local economy.

To support lives and the regional economy through the COVID-19 pandemic, Minato City made administrative procedures online, offering reductions or exemptions on issuance fees for certificates and other documents, delivering food and other necessities to eligible households with children, and providing points to users of cashless payment systems. Also in the future, the City will continue providing support by restoring the vitality of resident’s daily lives and through projects that offer the use of hotels in Minato City as recuperation facilities, and provide support for the issuance of premium vouchers, and others.

The City is also putting all efforts into achieving the target of vaccinating 85% of all eligible residents. We will also take certain steps to deliver the third vaccination swiftly. Vaccinations for the senior citizens in facilities will start from late January, and will create an environment that allows everyone to receive their vaccinations with peace of mind, such as establishing face-to-face appointment support centers and counters by support personnel using digital services.

A municipal facility complex containing the municipal Industry Promotion Center and Mita Library will open in April. It aims to unite corporations, people through regional strengths, and to provide the latest information and technology.
Also in April, the new Shibahama Elementary School will open to support the increasing number of children in Shibaura area. It will be equipped with an excellent learning environment for children, and provide learning characterized by collaboration with the facilities in the adjoining Minato Park Shibaura.
In August, General Welfare Counter will open in each Regional City Office. It will provide attentive and comprehensive support for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and households with children.

We will dedicate all our power to realize communities, where all residents can live in safety and comfort.

We hope this year will be full of happiness and cheer for all of you.
