Support Allowance for single parents

Eligibility

Allowance is provided for people who are nurturing a child until the first 3/31 after the child’s 18th birthday who meet any of the following conditions.

• Parents/guardians are officially divorced
• A child’s mother or father is deceased
• A child’s mother or father is severely disabled
• A child’s mother or father’s life or death is unknown
• A child who has been abandoned by his/her mother or father for one or more years
• A child’s mother or father was issued a protective order from a court
• A child’s mother or father is detained for one or more years
• The mother conceived the child out of wedlock, including common law and de facto marriages

Note

Not eligible if the child is living in a facility, including an infant home.
