What is the Light Vehicle Tax (Classified by Type)?

Individuals who own a motorcycle or light vehicle (vehicles smaller than 660 cc) must pay the light vehicle tax.

Who Pays Light Vehicle Tax (Category base)?

Individuals who own a motorcycle or light vehicle as of April 1 of the tax year.

Place of payment: Taxation Section on the 2F of Minato City Hall, each Regional City Office/Daiba Annex, banks, credit unions, credit associations, Japan Post banks, and convenience stores
* Payments can be made by reading the barcode on the bill, via Mobile Cashier, Mobile Cashier Credit (a processing fee will be charged in addition to the tax), E-money (using a smartphone).
* Individuals who need a "Light vehicle tax payment certificate (for continual Inspection)" should pay at a financial institution or convenience store.
* You can also pay via the "eLTAX for Payment Website (Chihouzei Oshiharai site)" using the eL-QR code on your payment slip.

Registration and Vehicle Disposal

A initial registration, change of ownership, or disposal of a vehicle should be promptly reported to the authorities. If you maintain a vehicle that you do not use, you must continue to pay taxes on that vehicle.
