On 6/3, Minato City Safety Day, a Lecture Was Held

The origin of Minato City Safety Day

On 6/3, 2006, at City Heights Takeshiba, a residential complex for residents, where an elevator ascended with its doors open, resulting in the death of a 16 years old user. To demonstrate an unwavering commitment to safety and security, the city designated 6/3, the date of the accident, as “Minato City Safety Day” in 2018.

Safety precautions for city facilities and elevators

1 Unintended Car Movement Protection
The city has been progressing the installation of door opening and running protection devices for elevators in city-owned facilities. As of 3/31, 2024, out of the 103 units targeted, installation has been completed on 102 units.

2 Strengthening of safety measures for city facilities
The city staff responsible for facility management conduct annual safety inspections of city-owned facilities and undertake actions such as repairs.

The lecture held on Minato City Safety Day

The city co-hosts an annual safety lecture on “Minato City Safety Day,” 6/3, with the family of the victim of the City Heights Takeshiba elevator accident.
On 6/3, this year, at the city’s Health and Welfare Center for the Disabled, a lecture was held with non-fiction writer YANAGIDA Kunio. Many people attended the lecture.
