National Pension Plan

All citizens are required to join the National Pension Plan. Foreigners aged 20 to 59 who are registered as residents of Minato City are also required by law to enroll in the National Pension system.
The National Pension Plan is a mutual aid system designed to enable the elderly to maintain stable lives and to provide support in the event of a disability or death.

 

Who Is Ineligible for the National Pension?

Individuals who are employed by a Japanese company become members of Employee Pension Insurance through the company. They are neither eligible nor required to join the National Pension system. For information on employee pensions, contact your employer.
