Individual Number Card
An Individual Number Card is a photo ID card containing an IC chip and the bearer’s My Number (Individual Number). The card can be used as official identification. Using your Individual Number Card, you can file electronic applications of e-Tax (electronic system for declaring and paying national tax). The Individual Number Card can also be used for obtaining copies of your resident register and other certificates at convenience stores.
How to apply for an Individual Number Card
- Application by post

- Application via local ID photo booth
Expiration of My Number Card: at the end of your period of stay
If you have extended your period of stay, you need to renew your My Number Card.
Please go to the nearest regional city office with your My Number Card and Residence Card by the day before the expiration date written on your My Number Card and complete the procedures there. No fee is required. However, if you wish to renew your My Number Card after the expiration date, you will be required to pay 1,000 yen for it to be reissued.
