Happy New Year

I would like to extend my sincere congratulations and wish all city residents a healthy and joyful start to the new year.

Last year reminded us of the threats posed by natural disasters with record-breaking heat and torrential rains in Tokyo. In addition, ongoing price increases in food and other daily necessities have had a significant impact on the lives of residents.
Minato City promptly implemented comprehensive heatstroke prevention measures and flood-control initiatives, including subsidies for the purchase of water-stop panels. We are also promoting initiatives to support the daily lives of our residents and revitalize the local economy by implementing point-reward programs using the Minato-specific digital community currency Mina Toku PAY.

As the number of child-abuse consultations continues to rise nationwide, Minato City marked the fifth anniversary of becoming a municipality with a child guidance center. In September of last year, We issued the Declaration with Children at the Center to protect the safety and well-being of all children.
We will work to create a Minato City where society as a whole supports children and strive to achieve zero incidents of child abuse.

This year, we will compile a draft of the new comprehensive plan, MINATO Vision, which outlines the future image of the city for the 2040s. In developing this vision, many people who live, work, study, and gather in the city have participated.
Minato City is rich in international character as it brings together diverse cultures and values. By understanding one another’ s perspectives and what each person holds dear, we will move forward together with all of you in charting a clear and reliable path toward a future filled with hope and promise.

The population of Minato City is expected to continue growing and to surpass 300,000 by 2033, seven years from now.
We will continue to do our utmost this year to respond appropriately to increasingly diverse administrative needs and ensure that Minato City remains a place where everyone can live with peace of mind throughout their lives.

I sincerely wish that the new year will be filled with happiness for all of you.
I look forward to your continued support throughout the year.

January 1, 2026
Seike Ai, Mayor of Minato City
