Police Department (Dial 110)
110 is the police phone number. If you have been involved in a crime or accident or feel that your life may be in danger, call 110 immediately. Foreign language operators are available.
Major police activities
Patrolling communities, preventing and controlling criminal activities such as robberies and violence, handling traffic violations and traffic accidents, giving directions to people who are lost, collecting lost-andfound items, reporting missing persons, and accepting suggestions from the community regarding police services.
Telephone consultation service for foreign residents
Even in non-emergency situations, the Metropolitan Police Department offers foreign language telephone consultations for non-Japanese residents.
Consultation hours: Mon. to Fri. except holidays 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.

Traffic Accidents
If you are involved in a traffic accident, no matter how minor, call 110. If you are a victim and want to file an insurance claim against the person who caused the accident, you must report the accident to the police and obtain a traffic accident report. If specialized knowledge is necessary for reaching an amicable settlement, take advantage of specialized institutions such as the Nichibenren Traffic Accident Consultation Center.

Fire Department (Dial 119)
Call 119 in case of a fire or in case of an emergency such as sudden illness or serious injury. The Fire Station is equipped with ambulances and fire engines.
- Dial 119. Start by stating whether you are reporting an emergency (injury or illness) or a fire.
- In response to the receptionist's questions, calmly and slowly state your address, telephone number, name, etc.
- Before an ambulance arrives, prepare the victim's health insurance card and some cash.
- If you can hear the ambulance siren, let the ambulance know where you are.
