National Pension Benefits

Basic Pension for the Elderly

Individuals who turn 65 may receive the Basic Old-age Pension.

Eligible individuals: Individuals who have paid National Pension premiums for 10 years or longer

 

Basic Disability Pension

Those covered by the National Pension plan may receive the Basic Disability Pension if they become disabled due to an illness or injury. The amount of pension benefits varies based on the degree of disability.

Basic Survivors’ Pension

The Basic Survivors’ Pension can be drawn in the event of a national pension member, by the member’s spouse or children who were relying on the deceased member for his/her income.

* A child is defined as a person who has not yet passed the first March 31st after their 18th birthday or a child under the age of 20 with a Class 1 or 2 disability.

Lump-Sum Withdrawal Refund

Foreigners who have paid National Pension premiums for six months or longer and who leave Japan before becoming eligible to receive pension benefits are eligible to receive a lump-sum withdrawal refund of their paid-in premiums. Eligible individuals should apply within two years after they no longer have an address in Japan. To apply for your refund, pick up an application form at the Pension Office. The form is also available on the Japan Pension Service website. Attach the necessary documents, and mail all materials to the Japan Pension Service.
