Medical Expense Subsidy for the Disabled Individuals
Medical Expense Subsidy for the Physically and Mentally Disabled (Metropolitan government program)
The Medical Expense Subsidy for the Physically and Mentally Disabled is a program to subsidize a portion of disabled individuals’ medical expenses when they receive examination at a medical institution that accepts health insurance.
*Income restrictions apply.
Eligible individuals:
- Holders of a Shintai Shogaisha Techo (Certificate of the Physically Disabled) Level 1 or 2 (Internal Disability Level 1-3)
- Holders of Ai-no-Techo (Certificate of the Intellectually Disabled) Level 1 or 2
- Holders of Seishin Shogaisha Hoken fukushi Techo (Certificate of the Mentally Disabled) Level 1

Medical Expenses Subsidy Scheme to Support Independence (Outpatient Psychiatric Health Care)
With this subsidy, individuals who visit doctors regularly from home for treatment of mental illness are required to pay only 10% of their medical treatment costs out-of-pocket. The prescribed diagnostic report and other documentation are required to apply. This subsidy is valid for one year. To extend it, applicants are required to go through extension procedures.

Hospitalization Expenses Subsidy for Children with Mental Disabilities
Those below 18 years of age are provided with a subsidy for insurance premiums paid by them when they must be hospitalized due to mental disabilities. The prescribed diagnostic report and other documentation are required to apply.

Medical Expenses Subsidy for Intractable Diseases
Intractable diseases refer to diseases that have resulted from unknown causes and for which no medical treatment has been established. Intractable diseases require long-term care. To those who are receiving medical treatment for intractable diseases designated by the national government or Tokyo metropolitan government, a portion or all of the out-of-pocket amount of the medical insurance will be subsidized.

Subsidy for the Cost of Treatment of Type B/Type C Virus Hepatitis
This program subsidizes the medical treatment costs for the type B/type C virus hepatitis, liver cancer, or severe cirrhosis will be subsidized. The amount after deducting the patient’s partial out-of-pocket amount from the patient’s out-of -pocket amount of medical insurance will be subsidized.
