Childbirth Expense Subsidy Program

Eligibility

The applicant must be the father or mother of the child and meet all of the following requirements:

  1. The applicant must have been registered as a resident of Minato City before the child’s birth and must have continuously resided in Minato City for at least one year as of the date of application.
  2. The child must be registered as a resident at the applicant’s address from the date of birth and must be living with the applicant as of the application date.
    *However, if both parents are foreign nationals and the child was born overseas, the child must have been registered as a resident at the applicant’s address in Japan from the date of the first resident registration after birth and must be living with the applicant as of the application date.
  3. The mother must be enrolled in Japan’s public health insurance system (either as an insured person or as a dependent of the father, etc.).
  4. The application must be submitted within one year of the child’s date of birth.

Subsidy Amount

For delivery and hospitalization expenses related to childbirth, the subsidy will cover the full amount remaining after subtracting the Childbirth and Childcare Lump-Sum Grant (including any additional benefits) from the lower of the actual childbirth expenses paid or the maximum subsidy calculation limit of ¥810,000 (with an additional ¥480,000 in the case of twins).

Required Documents

Copies of documents such as the official receipt for childbirth expenses issued by the hospital are required.

Submit the application within one year of the child’s birth by completing the Childbirth Expense Subsidy Application Form and attaching the required documents.
