May 1 to 7 Is Constitution Week

The Constitution of Japan came into effect on May 3, 1947. To commemorate this, May 3 is observed as Constitution Memorial Day, and the period from May 1 to 7 is designated as Constitution Week. Why not take this opportunity during Constitution Week to reflect once again on the significance of the Constitution?

and Film Screening
●Film
HAFU (87 minutes, with Japanese subtitles)
About the Film
In today’s world, where people increasingly move across borders, many individuals in Japan have one non-Japanese parent. Some are visibly distinct, while others are not.
The documentary film HAFU follows the lives of five people born to one Japanese parent and one non-Japanese parent, capturing their complex feelings and everyday experiences in a society that has long perceived itself as ethnically homogeneous.
●Lecture
Speaker
Mr. David Yano

Theme
“Between Cultures: Choosing the Path of Human Connection”
Lecture Overview
Since appearing in the documentary film HAFU, Mr. Yano has reflected deeply on the relationship between “raising one’s voice” and human rights. Drawing on his experiences, he will discuss the struggles and silences faced not only by people of mixed heritage, but by all minorities, as well as the courage it takes to speak out and the impact of doing so. In an era marked by growing division and exclusion, this lecture invites us to reconsider what it truly means to live together beyond our differences.
