Let's Be Sure to Declare All Your Tax Deductions

By properly declaring income deductions and tax credits for the Special City Resident Tax and Tokyo Metropolitan Tax (hereinafter “Resident Tax”), your total tax amount may be reduced.

Income Deductions

Income deductions are amounts subtracted from your total income to ensure a fair tax burden based on individual circumstances. The following deductions can be declared for resident tax:

□ Casualty Loss Deduction
□ Medical Expense Deduction
□ Social Insurance Premium Deduction
□ Small Enterprise Mutual Aid Premium Deduction
□ Life Insurance Premium Deduction
□ Earthquake Insurance Premium Deduction
□ Disability Deduction
□ Widow/Widower Deduction
□ Single Parent Deduction
□ Working Student Deduction
□ Spouse Deduction
□ Special Spouse Deduction
□ Dependent Deduction

For details on the conditions and limits, please check the Minato City website.

Tax Credits

Tax credits are amounts subtracted directly from the calculated tax amount. In addition to the donation tax credit, there are five other types of resident tax credits.
□ Donation Tax Credit
If you donate to a local government or certain public-interest organizations, you may be eligible for the donation tax credit (subject to limits).
〇 Special Donation Deduction (Furusato Nozei)
When you make a hometown tax donation, the amount exceeding 2,000 yen can be deducted from your income tax and resident tax (subject to limits).

*When filing an income tax return, please be sure to write the donation amount in the “Resident Tax” section (Table 2) of your tax return form.
